Morgan, Prideaux take ICWGA Medal Play

Jill Morgan took the low gross title with 90 at Indian Creek Women’s Golf Association medal play this week with Patsy Prideaux taking the low net with 68. Jo Smith finished second in gross scoring with a 95, while Karen Shortt was second in net with a 69. ICWGA Day’s Play was a game of "even" with players counting only even-numbered holes and taking half the handicap. First gross went to Patsy Prideaux with 46 and first net went to Diana Das with 34. Susan Gutzler and Judy Grainger tied for second gross with a 48, while Jean Puddefoot took second net with 34.5 and Pauline Kennedy took third net with 35.5. S ign-up sheet for the Fall Handicap is in the Pro shop; tournament date is Sept. 11. Day’s play is Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. with the draw at 8:15.

Terrana wins ICMBA net play
Dino Terrana won the Tuesday, Sept. 2, Indian Creek Men's Golf Association Individual Net Play with a net 63. Scott Linden was second at net 66. Ron Yamashita was third at net 70. Dennis Thomas, after coming in second the last five times, finally won low gross with a 76. Jon Lozowski got the KP on the fifth hole.

Hall of Fame tournament Sept. 13

The Hood River Valley Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held Sept. 13 at Hood River Golf Course. Prizes will be awarded for long drive, closest to the pin, first, second and third place teams as well as specialty awards and raffle prizes. Cost per golfer is $75. Specialized Bicycle demo Aug. 28

The specialized Bicycle Company will be holding a demo of its 2009 road and mountain bike models at Post Canyon on Thursday, Aug. 28. The event begins at noon and runs until approximately 7 p.m. For more information contact Mt. View Cycles at (541) 386-BIKE.

Escape the Gorge Sept. 7

The annual Escape from the Gorge Triathlon will be held this year on Sunday, Sept. 7, in Cascade Locks. The event, which proved to be one of the most popular and talked-about in the 2007 Pacific Northwest triathlon season, promises to be a tough race for the serious athletes and a beautiful but challenging day for the less-experienced.

Participants will first jump ship from the Sternwheeler for a 1.5-mile downriver swim to the Cascade Locks Marina Park, followed by a 15-mile bike ride and an 8-mile run through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

For kids and those less conditioned, there will also be a Lil’Scape Triathlon (quarter-mile swim, 9-mile bike and 2-mile run), an Escape Ultra Swim (1.5 mile downriver swim off the Sternwheeler) and a Tri For Kids 14 and under (50-yard swim, 1-mile bike and quarter-mile run).

HR Golf Fun day moved to Aug. 28

Weather postponed the Hood River Golf Club’s end of the season Youth Fun day last week so the event has been moved to Thursday, Aug. 28 at Hood River Golf Course. For more information, contact Casey McCoy at 386-3009.

Nardeno wins ICMGA Day's Play

 Joe Nardeno won the Tuesday, Aug. 19, Indian Creek Men's Golf Association Individual Net Play with a net 65.  Mark Robertson was second at net 71.  Paul Armerding was third at net 71.   Dennis Thomas for the fifth time came in second low gross.  Roger Barry beat Thomas by one stroke at 76.  Mark Schmidt got the KP on the 10th hole.  Sign up for the Sep. 6-7, ICMGA Fall Handicap in the pro shop.

Thursday league taking applications

The Hood River Thursday Golf League is taking applications for its fall season, which begins Sept. 4. Dues for the season are $10 which benefit the Community Education Foundation. The league’s 2008 Thursday summer season was won by Ken Packer and Chris Emerson in a playoff with the team of Mike Schock and Judy Dutcher, who was substituting for Joe Laraway.
