We wish you a windy
Endurance.
Okay, as musical greetings it’s
not much, but it’s certainly seasonal.
The
Kite Derby and Stand-up Paddle Endurance Races are two big parts
of a significant event this weekend, the Kiteboarding 4 Cancer
(K4C) events on the waterfront. (Go to
www.kb4c.org for updated event
schedule and details.)
K4C is no typical sports
event; it benefits important efforts such as the Breast Cancer
Prevention Program of The Next Door Inc.
It’s also one of those
events that defines Hood River: This is a festival of serious
fun.
It’s getting wet with a
purpose.
Thanks to all the
organizers and supporters, and we wish you wind at just the
right speed and with enough swirl and swell to keep it
interesting.
n
Temperatures are expected
to ease down into the 80s and 70s over the weekend, but if
you’re not planning to go kiting or paddling, here are some
other keep-cool tips:
n
The History Museum of Hood River County is a fascinating
storehouse of local lore — and air-conditioned. (Open Monday to
Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5.)
n
The pool — and new patio — are open each day at Hood River
Aquatic Center.
n
Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles is air-conditioned, and
features new films and exhibits.
