Get “Ready To Rumble.”
Red Cross is making earthquake preparedness fun.
In January, there was an earthquake in Haiti. In February, an
earthquake in Chile. In March, a swarms of quakes in Southern
California. And as the temblors get closer to home, Oregonians
might be wondering, “Just when will an earthquake strike our
state — and will I be ready?”
Scientists believe it is
just a matter of time before “the big one” hits Oregon. There
have been about 40 documented great earthquakes along the
Cascadia Subduction Zone.
As April is Earthquake
Preparedness Month, the Oregon Trail Chapter is holding a
contest to encourage Oregonians to be ready for anything.
The American Red Cross
recommends that Oregonians have a family disaster plan to ensure
that all family members know what to do, where to go and who to
call in case of a disaster. Prepare by determining the best
escape routes for your home; practice drop, cover and hold in
designated safe places; and compile a disaster supply kit with
food, water, first aid supplies, flashlight and a radio.
Red Cross encourages
Oregonians to get a kit, make a plan and be informed about the
natural disasters that can strike our state.
