Obituary

Ted Wordsworth

Ted Randall Wordsworth was born to Chrystell June (Seals) and Earl Ephraim Wordsworth on April 22, 1952, in Spokane, Wash. He passed away at his home in Hood River, Ore., on Aug. 11, 2008, at the age of 55.

Growing up, Ted lived in Spokane until the age of 9 at which time the family moved to Seattle. When he was 16, he moved to Hood River.

Ted set off for Alaska, working as a commercial fisherman in the summer and an EMT the rest of the year. He began spending his winters in Hood River in 1999, working as a plumbing contractor, but when summer came around his love of commercial fishing drew him back to Alaska, where he continued to work for many years.

Ted loved to be on the ocean; his family joked that he had saltwater for blood. He also enjoyed traveling and was able to visit Hong Kong, Indonesia, India and Hawaii.

Ted liked tinkering and could fix just about everything that needed fixing. He kept the household running smoothly for his family. Always outgoing and friendly, Ted never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his mother, Chrystell Cherrington, of Hood River; sisters Gayle Nelson, of Emmett, Idaho, Linda Thomas, of Nampa, Idaho, and Beth McCarty, of Hood River; brothers Mark Wordsworth, of Kirkland, Wash., and Dave Wordsworth, of Bothell, Wash.; stepsisters Diane Roub, of Portland, Ore., Lelaine White, of Ephrata, Wash., and Cheri’ Denton, of Portland; stepbrother Donnie Cherrington, of White Salmon, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Hood River Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jim Beals officiating. Ted’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Heart of Hospice, 1020 Wasco St., Suite C, Hood River, OR 97031.
