Caberet singer performs Aug. 25

D.C. Anderson, a singer-songwriter and actor will be performing a solo caberet style show at the Columbia Center for the Arts on Monday, Aug. 25, starting at 7:30 p.m. Anderson is currently performing as the character “Andre” in the touring production of The Phantom of the Opera. Music continues at the Ratskeller

Summer music continues at the Ratskeller in August, with a mix of local and regional bands. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, it’s the Matty-Mo dance party; on Friday, Aug 15, it’s a D.J. dance party; on Friday, Aug. 22, it’s bluegrass with Portland’s Chickweed; and on Saturday, Aug. 23, it’s T-Ray and the Shades. Cash Cow plays Aug. 16

Local blues band Cash Cow is playing at Double Mt. on Saturday, Aug.16, from 7 -10 p.m., playing a mix of rockin’ blues and surfabilly. Double Mountain Brewery, 8 Fourth St., Hood River; 387-0042.

‘Big Water’ at Trillium Cafe

Local music at the Trillium Cafe includes jazz and swing from Django’s Cadillac on Thursday, Aug. 14. Enjoy instrumental gypsy jazz with a modern jazz twist. Families in the Park Aug. 14

On Thursday, Aug. 14, it’s Aqua Meil with their Latin and Sala sounds coming to Jackson Park in Hood River. The band is made up of nine players from around the world. They put a funky spin on the Salsa classics as well as their original songs. They are one of the hottest bands in the Portland area. A children’s musical will be the opening act and the Delta Kappa taco feed will start at 6 p.m. The FISH food bank will be holding a food drive.

‘Free Music to the People’ Aug. 14

The “Free Music To The People,” music series will take place at Timberline Lodge in the newly renovated outdoor amphitheater. The shows will take place on Thursday afternoons in August, through Sept. 4. The shows will start at 2:30 p.m. and feature performers of acoustic blues, bluegrass, and folk music. Aug. 14 - Moe Dixon, a local favorite who also plays throughout the country is heralded as “the most popular apres ski entertainer in the nation.” Aug. 21 - The Larry Wilder Americana Trio will perform an interesting blend of true American songs; from old time ballads to bluegrass. Aug. 28 - Mary Flower is one of the nation's premier fingerstyle blues artists. Sept. 4 - Django's Cadillac is one of the region's hottest live performance bands, playing gypsy jazz and swing with a modern twist. Fun for everyone who likes to tap their toe, or even dance in the aisles.

Michael McDonald at Maryhill

Maryhill Winery’s 2008 Summer Concert Series concludes with Michael McDonald and special guest Jill Trenholm, on Saturday, Aug. 30. Please note this concert starts at 7 p.m. (not 8 p.m.). Tickets are still available at Ticketmaster. Michael McDonald, best known for his work with the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, continues his career as a Grammy-nominated solo artist. Gorge Wine Celebration Aug. 16

Sample wines from over 20 Columbia Gorge Wineries at the Gorge Wine Celebration for Hospice, on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The $50 ticket includes buffet dinner, wine tasting, souvenir wine glass and music by Desmond Fuller. Silent and live auctions will feature one of a kind winery packages to raise money for Hospice of The Gorge. Author Lovell in HR Aug. 16

Waucoma Bookstore in Hood River is hosting mystery writer Ron Lovell for a book signing on Saturday, Aug. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. Lovell will be signing his new book “Yaquina White,” the latest book in the Martindale mystery series. Free street dance Aug. 20

Squrl Music presents a free street dance on Wednesday, Aug. 20, with Austin Texas blues band “Carolyn Wonderland.” This all-ages show will be in the parking lot on the corner of Fourth and Oak St (Horse and the Hound British Pub) in Hood River and music goes from 7 to 10 p.m. Currently on a U.S. tour, “The renegade Wonderland likes to incorporate elements of blues, country, swing, zydeco, surf, gospel, and soul into the musical mix.”

Tilly Jam at Stonehedge

Jam masters Tilly Jam perform on the patio at Stonehedge Gardens starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. A fresh salmon dinner featuring “Tilly Jam Sauce” (raspberry/jalepeno) will be available in addition to the regular menu. Call for reservations. Karla Bonoff performs Aug. 22

The Skamania Performing Arts Foundation celebrates its second annual Guest Artist Series with two remaining shows. On Friday, Aug. 22, it’s Karla Bonoff in concert at the Amphitheater at Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Wash. Music starts at 7 p.m. For over 30 years, singer/songwriter Karla Bonoff has been writing and performing “earthy anthems of soul-searching, heartache, and joy.” Best known for songs covered by Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt, Bonoff has several solo efforts and credits with many other artists. On Friday, Sept. 12, the Guest Artist Series continues with ’30s era vocal jazz group the Stolen Sweets, at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River. Red Oak Station plays Aug. 16

Bluegrass band Red Oak Station will be performing on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the home of Rob and Shirley Bagge, 805 Carroll Rd., Mosier. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Red Oak Station plays a combination of bluegrass, old country and gospel music. Summer music at Dixie’s

The summer music series at Dixie’s wraps up with two more shows on the patio. On Saturday, Aug. 16, “Scott and Sid” from the band Sparks and Gravel will be doing an acoustic set from 7-10 p.m. On Wednesday, Aug. 27, it’s the good-time music of the Hapa Hillbillies from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no cover charge for these shows. ‘Ukulele Celebration’ Aug. 15

Come celebrate the ukulele with area players and luthiers at “The Gorge Ukulele Celebration” on Friday, Aug. 15, at The Pines Tasting Room, from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $10, and kids are free (must be accompanied by parent or guardian). Performers will include Moe Dixon, Ben Bonham, Larry Wyatt, The Hapa Hillbillies and The Westside Ukuestra. Bring a ukulele and join in on some play-along favorites.
