The annual “Field Day” showcasing orchard
research will be Thursday at Mid Columbia Agricultural Research
and Experiment Center in Hood River, from 2-5 p.m.
Field Day will culminate with the annual
“Town and Country Barbecue,” sponsored by Oregon State
University and Hood River Chamber of Commerce from 5-7 p.m. at
3005 Experiment Station Drive. See Field Day schedule below; all
events are open to the public.
Town and Country is a late summer tradition
intended to bring growers together with other segments of the
community
“Town and Country began because the local
agriculture community decided that hosting a Business After
Hours would be a good way to remind people that Hood River
business isn’t all about downtown,” said Mary Mosier Davis, a
Chamber board member and administrative assistant at MCAREC.
“Our local farmers want to educate people
about local agriculture businesses and the challenges they face.
This annual event serves to remind Hood River residents that our
growers manage profit-oriented enterprises and are a major
contributor to our local economy.”
The barbecue is free, and sponsored by
Columbia Gorge Fruit Growers, Hood River Farm Bureau, and Hood
River Women in Agriculture.
