Local art,
local wine and a historic landmark set the stage for the third
annual Mid-Columbia Association of Realtors fund-raiser for
local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
Rare,
unavailable vintages from Gorge wineries along with original
works of art from local artists will be offered at the live
auction at the Gorge White House, 2265 Highway 35, July 24 from
5-9 p.m.
The
Mid-Columbia Association of Realtors is following the leadership
of the National Association of Realtors by partnering with
Habitat for Humanity to help provide housing for those who need
a helping hand.
The association
has partnered with Habitat in the Katrina recovery effort.
Additionally the NAR as a group has contributed millions of
dollars and many volunteer hours toward rebuilding in southeast
Asia after the 2005 tsunami.
Local Habitat
for Humanity affiliates have built 14 homes in The Dalles and
one in Odell. The affiliate in The Dalles has two more houses
due for completion this year. The Mid-Columbia affiliate owns a
lot in White Salmon, is working on a purchase of land in Lyle
and is planning to start another home late this summer.
“This community
has tremendous heart,” said Ruth Chausse, president of
Mid-Columbia Association of Realtors. “Right now the need for a
unified effort to help provide housing is the greatest it has
ever been. We are overwhelmed at the positive response.”
The group is trying to raise
$20,000 for the two local Habitat for Humanity affiliates,
Mid-Columbia Habitat for Humanity and Habitat for Humanity The
Dalles. Last year the event raised $10,000.
